Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana - Urban 2.0 (PMAY-U 2.0), 10 lakh houses will be constructed in urban areas for economically weaker and middle-income groups over the next five years. The construction of these houses will require an estimated investment of ₹50,000 crore. Out of this, the central and state governments have approved an estimated grant of ₹23,025 crore.

Beneficiaries to be Covered Under Four Key Components:

  1. Beneficiary-Led Construction (BLC): Eligible beneficiaries from the EWS category can build houses on their own land.
  2. Affordable Housing and Partnership (AHP): Housing will be provided to EWS beneficiaries through urban local bodies, state construction agencies, and private builders. Beneficiaries purchasing houses from private developers under this scheme will receive a Redeemable Housing Voucher (RHV).
  3. Affordable Rental Housing (ARH): Rental housing will be provided to working women, industrial workers, urban migrants, homeless individuals, and other eligible beneficiaries.
  4. Interest Subsidy Scheme (ISS): Interest subsidies on home loans will be provided to eligible families under the EWS, LIG, and MIG categories.

Special Provisions for the Underprivileged and Workers:

This scheme prioritizes single women, differently-abled individuals, senior citizens, transgender persons, destitute women, SC/ST communities, minorities, and other weaker sections. Additionally, sanitation workers, street vendors identified under the PM SVANidhi Scheme, artisans covered under the PM Vishwakarma Scheme, Anganwadi workers, construction laborers, and slum dwellers will also benefit from the scheme.

₹2.5 Lakh Grant for BLC Beneficiaries: Beneficiaries under the BLC category will receive a grant of ₹2.5 lakh per house. Additionally, the scheme includes a provision for self geo-tagging of houses to track construction progress. The scheme has revised eligibility criteria, ensuring that an entire family unit (husband, wife, and unmarried children) is treated as a single beneficiary, eliminating separate benefits for unmarried adult members.

Madhya Pradesh Ranked Second in PMAY-U Phase 1 Implementation:

Madhya Pradesh secured second place nationwide in the first phase of PMAY-U. Out of 9.45 lakh sanctioned houses, 8.33 lakh houses have already been completed. Of the approved financial assistance of ₹19,400 crore, around ₹18,700 crore has already been disbursed to beneficiaries by the central and state governments.
