The 20th national-level Divya Kala Mela was inaugurated today in Pune, organized by the Department of Empowerment of Persons with Disabilities (Divyangjan), Ministry of Social Justice and Empowerment, Government of India. The event was graced by the Honorable Governor of Maharashtra, Shri C.P. Radhakrishnan, Union Minister for Social Justice and Empowerment, Dr. Virendra Kumar, and MP Shrirang Appa Barne.
The National Divyangjan Finance and Development Corporation (NDFDC) has sanctioned loans amounting to ₹2 crore under its various schemes, providing Divyangjan the opportunity to expand their businesses. Additionally, motorized tricycles were distributed to eligible beneficiaries, further enhancing mobility for Divyangjan.
Governor Shri C.P. Radhakrishnan praised the talent and resilience of Divyangjan, stating that their contributions are essential for building a strong and inclusive India. He highlighted the financial empowerment schemes operated by NDFDC, which provide loans ranging from ₹50,000 to ₹50 lakh at an interest rate of 4% to 9% annually for income-generating activities. These loans are facilitated through NDFDC’s state channelizing agencies, Punjab National Bank, and regional rural banks across the country.
Union Minister Dr. Virendra Kumar emphasized the significance of the Divya Kala Mela as a vital platform for marketing Divyangjan products. He noted that this fair offers a unique opportunity for Divyangjan to showcase their skills, creativity, and entrepreneurial spirit. To date, around 1,450 participants have participated in Divya Kala Melas nationwide, collectively generating over ₹11.5 crore in revenue. Furthermore, loans exceeding ₹10 crore have been sanctioned to promote the growth of Divyang businesses.
The Minister further announced that employment fairs are now being held alongside the Divya Kala Mela, providing greater job opportunities for Divyangjan. So far, 1,400 participants have been screened, with 370 shortlisted and over 100 receiving job offers. Following the successful organization of 19 such fairs across the country, this event aims to empower Divyangjan by providing them with a platform to demonstrate their talents and entrepreneurial skills.
At the Divya Kala Mela, over 100 Divyang artisans, entrepreneurs, and artists from 18 states and union territories are showcasing their products and art. Free exhibition stalls have been provided to ensure that Divyangjan can present their work on prestigious platforms in metropolitan areas. The Divya Kala Mela will run until October 6, 2024, and is open to all with free entry. The event features a total of 60 stalls, along with cultural performances by Divyang artists.
