The news in Telangana is shocking for farmers. The Election Commission has withdrawn permission given to the state government to distribute funds to farmers under the Rythu Bandhu Scheme before November 28. This step by the commission is taken due to the violation of rules by a leader of the Bharatiya Raita Samithi (BRS). The upcoming assembly elections are now expected to witness this move as a significant setback for farmers, just three days before voting.
It is noteworthy that both the Congress and the BJP had sought the Election Commission to revoke this permission. It should be mentioned that the Rythu Bandhu Scheme was initiated by Telangana Chief Minister K. Chandrashekhar Rao in the financial year 2018-19 to economically assist farmers. Under this scheme, the state government directly transfers money to the bank accounts of farmers. Initially, farmers in the state received financial assistance of Rs. 8,000 annually.
