In Jammu and Kashmir, a technical working group (TWG) meeting was held on Friday to discuss the proposals with the Union Territory Level Screening Committee (UTLSC). The meeting was chaired by Atal Dulloo, the Additional Chief Secretary of the Department of Agriculture Production in Jammu and Kashmir, to discuss a comprehensive agricultural policy aimed at overall development of agriculture and related sectors in the region.
Recently, the Jammu and Kashmir government had set up a high-level committee of eight members, chaired by former DG ICAR, Dr. Mangal Ray, to prepare a comprehensive agriculture policy. In this context, the Technical Working Group (TWG) organized a brainstorming session to obtain input and suggestions for presenting the proposals to the top committee. Specialists and scientists discussed all 25 proposals among themselves before presenting them to the committee. The detailed review of all these proposals was conducted in the meeting so that the identification of issues, data analysis, and formulation of solutions, considering both short-term and long-term goals, could be done. It was explained during the meeting that the 25 proposals, along with the name of the project, would be presented under the chairmanship of the department's director or a subject matter specialist. Atal Dulloo stated that the committee aims to double the contribution to the agricultural GDP in the next five years and make use of the reserved grant of ₹900 crores by the Indian government for the Union Territory of Jammu and Kashmir.
