Union Agriculture Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan has assumed office with a commitment to doubling farmers' incomes. In a conversation with the media, Minister Chouhan expressed his happiness, stating that the first decision taken by the Prime Minister was in the interest of farmers. He emphasized that the Prime Minister is committed to doubling farmers' incomes and that the government will take all necessary steps for farmers' welfare and development. He affirmed that improving the lives of farmers should be the ministry's mission. Minister Chouhan also highlighted that the NDA government has been working for farmers' welfare over the past ten years and will continue to strive to achieve these goals.
During Shivraj Singh Chouhan's tenure as Chief Minister, Madhya Pradesh saw an increase in wheat production, making it the second-largest wheat producer in the country. Government agencies began procuring crops, and the state became a leading producer of other grains and vegetables like soybeans, chickpeas, tomatoes, garlic, ginger, coriander, and fenugreek. Under Chouhan's leadership, MP received several Krishi Karman Awards for excellent performance in agricultural production and planning.
Benefits for Farmers: Farmers in Madhya Pradesh benefit from the Pradhan Mantri Kisan Samman Nidhi, receiving ₹6,000 annually. They are also exempt from paying interest on agricultural loans. The number of farmers with tube wells and electricity connections increased from 1.3 million to over 3.2 million in ten years. In addition to MSP, bonuses were provided for wheat procurement, and MSP for pulses, oilseeds, and coarse grains will be increased, leading to better profits for farmers.
Challenges Ahead: As the new Agriculture Minister, Shivraj Singh Chouhan faces the significant challenge of empowering farmers to undertake large-scale farming and introducing innovations to attract young people to agriculture.
