Due to the sudden change in weather this year, farmers have incurred significant losses. The increase in temperature in February and unseasonal rainfall and hailstorms in March led to the destruction of Rabi crops. Several districts in Bihar, approximately six, have suffered considerable damage to their crops. In 299 panchayats across these six districts, more than 33% of the crops have been affected. In response to this, the Bihar government has announced compensation for the farmers. For this purpose, the state government has organized the Agriculture Input Subsidy Scheme, which is highly beneficial for farmers. According to the notification issued by the Bihar government, farmers can expect compensation within 7 to 10 days. To avail the compensation, farmers are required to apply on the Bihar DBT portal by April 20.
Under this scheme, farmers will receive compensation from the government based on a per-hectare calculation. Farmers in the state will receive an annual grant of 13,500 rupees per hectare. Small farmers from 196 blocks across 23 districts will also benefit from this scheme. If you wish to apply for this scheme, you can visit the official website of the Bihar state government at dbtagriculture.bihar.gov.in.
For areas with unirrigated crops that suffered losses, compensation of 8,500 rupees per hectare will be provided. For irrigated areas with losses in Rabi crops, compensation of 17,000 rupees per hectare will be offered. For perennial crops like sugarcane, where losses have occurred, compensation of 22,500 rupees per hectare will be granted.
