With the monsoon season ending, many regions across India are now experiencing the onset of cooler weather. As temperatures drop, people have started pulling out their blankets and quilts. Meanwhile, the air quality index (AQI) has shown some improvement in several cities. However, a few major urban centers continue to face alarmingly poor air quality. Here’s a look at the current air quality situation in various cities.

Hapur Records the Worst AQI

According to the latest data from the Central Pollution Con/,jb vtrol Board (CPCB), there has been a slight improvement in air quality across the country over the past few days. However, many cities, particularly the larger ones, have shown little to no change. On October 16, Hapur recorded the highest average AQI at 301, marking it as the worst in the country. Other cities with high AQI levels included Muzaffarnagar at 292, Durgapur at 264, Singrauli at 249, Delhi at 230, Belapur at 210, Faridabad at 206, Ghaziabad at 203, and Manesar at 200. As of 10 AM today, Delhi's AQI stood at 236.

Cleaner Air in Southern Cities

On the brighter side, cities in southern India continue to enjoy relatively clean air. For instance, Amravati in Maharashtra recorded an AQI of 38, Bengaluru 48, Thiruvananthapuram and Chennai 50, while Hyderabad's AQI stood at 56. Additionally, improvement in air quality has been observed in cities like Thane (Maharashtra), Surat (Gujarat), Jhansi (Uttar Pradesh), and Indore (Madhya Pradesh).

Today’s AQI in Bhopal and Indore

In Bhopal, the AQI today stands at 136, while the city’s maximum temperature is expected to reach 33°C, with a minimum of 21°C. In Indore, the AQI is anticipated to range between 52 and 70. The city’s maximum temperature is forecasted at 32°C, with a minimum of 22°C.

Conclusion

While there has been some improvement in air quality across India, certain cities continue to experience dangerous levels of pollution. As cooler weather sets in and paddy stubble burning along with Diwali celebrations approach, air pollution levels could spike in the coming weeks.
