Temperatures across the country remain higher than normal and are expected to continue for the coming days. According to the India Meteorological Department (IMD), a western disturbance is active over Jammu and surrounding regions, which may result in light to moderate rain and snowfall in Jammu & Kashmir, Ladakh, Himachal Pradesh, and Gilgit-Baltistan-Muzaffarabad. Additionally, a cyclonic circulation persists over southern Pakistan and adjoining southwestern Rajasthan. Light rain or snowfall is likely to continue in some areas between February 21 and 23.
The weather department has predicted hailstorms in some parts of Uttarakhand, along with Odisha, Jharkhand, and Gangetic West Bengal. Punjab, Haryana, and Chandigarh may experience thunderstorms with lightning and wind speeds of 30-40 km/h, accompanied by light to moderate rainfall. Some areas of Uttar Pradesh are also likely to receive rainfall. Additionally, Vidarbha may witness light rain on February 22, while Chhattisgarh may experience showers between February 20 and 22.
The national capital is expected to have a cloudy sky today, with possibilities of light rain or drizzle. A drop in temperature is anticipated, with the maximum likely to be around 25°C and the minimum at 13°C. On the previous day, the maximum temperature was recorded at 28.4°C, while the minimum was 10.4°C. The weather conditions may also impact the scheduled oath-taking ceremony in Delhi today.
IMD’s Warning and Advisory: The IMD has issued a warning for Jammu & Kashmir, Ladakh, Gilgit-Baltistan, Muzaffarabad, and Himachal Pradesh weather, stating that heavy rain and snowfall may lead to power outages, landslides, road blockages, and disruptions in highways and bridges. Unstable buildings and houses may also be at risk.
People have been advised to avoid waterlogged areas, underpasses, and drainage zones, as unexpected flooding or overflow may occur. The IMD has also urged people to stay away from power lines and electric wires and to avoid staying in weak structures during heavy rainfall.
Farmers have been advised to drain excess water from fields, harvest mature crops and store them safely, and provide support to horticultural crops and vegetables to prevent damage.
