According to the Indian Meteorological Department, temperatures are expected to remain above normal during April-May 2025. As a result, many parts of the country may experience heatwave (heat stroke) conditions. Considering the potential risks, an advisory has been issued to help the public take necessary precautions against heat-related illnesses.

Symptoms of Heatwave (Heat Stroke):

  1. Excessive sweating or complete absence of sweating
  2. Muscle cramps, pain in the legs, abdomen, or other body parts
  3. Red patches, swelling, and blisters on the skin
  4. Headache, fever, weakness, and nausea
  5. Hot and dry skin
  6. Rapid pulse, dizziness, and unconsciousness

What to Do in Case of Heat Stroke?

  1. Move the affected person to a shaded or cool place.
  2. Use cold, wet cloths to sponge the body or give a cold water bath.
  3. Provide cool drinks like buttermilk, lemon water, or mango panna.
  4. In case of blisters, apply sterilized dressing and seek medical advice.
  5. If the person experiences vomiting or unconsciousness, take them to the nearest medical facility immediately.
  6. For muscle cramps, gently massage the affected area.

Preventive Measures to Avoid Heat Stroke:

  1. Stay hydrated by drinking sufficient water, buttermilk, ORS solution, lemonade, lassi, and mango panna throughout the day.
  2. Avoid going out in direct sunlight, especially between 12 PM and 3 PM.
  3. Cover your head with a cloth, cap, or umbrella while stepping outside.
  4. Wear loose, light-colored cotton clothes.
  5. Avoid synthetic and dark-colored clothing.
  6. If feeling overheated, wipe the body with a wet cloth or take a bath.
  7. Do not bathe immediately after coming indoors from the sun or hot winds.
  8. Reduce the intake of heavy, oily, and protein-rich foods. Limit the consumption of tea, coffee, and alcoholic beverages.
