The Department of Animal Husbandry & Dairying under the Ministry of Fisheries, Animal Husbandry & Dairying is organizing a two-day conclave in Shillong, Meghalaya, from January 23 to 24, 2025, themed "Dialogue for the Holistic Development of the Livestock Sector in North East India." The conclave will be inaugurated by Union Minister Shri Rajiv Ranjan Singh (Lalan Singh), Ministry of Fisheries, Animal Husbandry & Dairying, and Panchayati Raj, as the Chief Guest.
On this occasion, several projects will be dedicated to the people of North East India, and Memorandums of Understanding (MOUs) will be signed with the industry to promote investment in the livestock sector.
the conclave aims to bring key stakeholders together to discuss strategies for the holistic development of the livestock and poultry sectors. It will focus on evaluating the current status and challenges, identifying growth opportunities, and exploring development pathways through value chain strengthening, technological interventions, and policy support. The event will promote knowledge sharing and capacity building among stakeholders, including farmers, entrepreneurs, policymakers, and researchers, and will advocate for sustainable agricultural practices aligned with the "One Health" approach.
The Government of India is implementing several major schemes such as the Animal Husbandry Infrastructure Development Fund, the Entrepreneurship Development Program under the National Livestock Mission (NLM), the National Gokul Mission (RGM), and the National Programme for Dairy Development (NPDD), all aimed at boosting productivity and promoting sustainable livestock practices. The conclave will serve as a platform to pave the way for sustainable and inclusive growth in the regional livestock and poultry industries.
Participation of Senior Officials and Experts at the Conclave: The Secretary of the Department of Animal Husbandry & Dairying, Ms. Alka Upadhyaya, along with other senior officers from the Department and Principal Secretaries from the North Eastern Region (NER) states, will also participate in the two-day dialogue. The conclave will see active participation from scientists, NGOs, entrepreneurs, and key stakeholders from the private sector in the livestock and poultry industry.
