The Madhya Pradesh Western Region Power Distribution Company (MPPKVVCL) is effectively implementing the Atal Griha Jyoti Yojana, a flagship initiative of the state government. In the last billing cycle, as many as 31.82 lakh (3.182 million) domestic consumers across the Malwa-Nimar region benefitted from the scheme. Under this initiative, eligible consumers are provided electricity at the concessional rate of ₹1 per unit for the first 100 units consumed per month.

₹147 Crore Subsidy Disbursed in One Month:

A total subsidy of ₹147 crore was disbursed by the Madhya Pradesh government in a single month to support this scheme. Among the 15 districts under the jurisdiction of the Western Region Power Distribution Company, Indore district recorded the highest number of beneficiaries, with 4.65 lakh consumers availing the scheme and receiving approximately ₹18 crore in subsidies.

Objective of the Scheme:

Launched by the Energy Department, the Atal Griha Jyoti Yojana aims to provide financial relief to low-energy-consuming households by subsidizing their electricity bills, thereby ensuring affordable and accessible power for the economically weaker and middle-income sections of society.

District-wise Beneficiary Highlights:

  1. Dhar: 3 lakh consumers
  2. Ujjain: 2.96 lakh
  3. Khargone: 2.74 lakh
  4. Ratlam: 2.45 lakh
  5. Dewas: 2.17 lakh
  6. Mandsaur: 2.28 lakh
  7. Khandwa: 2 lakh
  8. Barwani: 1.99 lakh
  9. Jhabua: approximately 1.75 lakh

In other districts, between 90,000 and 1.35 lakh domestic consumers also benefitted from the scheme.

Eligibility: Daily Usage Must Not Exceed 5 Units: According to the company’s Managing Director, Mr. Anoop Kumar Singh, only domestic consumers whose average daily electricity consumption is 5 units or less are eligible for the subsidy. If a consumer exceeds this limit, they are not entitled to receive the subsidy for that particular month. Under the guidance of Energy Minister Shri Pradyumna Singh Tomar, regular feedback is collected from consumer’s post-subsidy distribution to continuously enhance the scheme’s effectiveness and quality.

The Atal Griha Jyoti Yojana reflects the state government's strong commitment to easing the financial burden of electricity bills for economically disadvantaged families by ensuring affordable and reliable power supply.
