Boosting Cattle rearing: ₹2,000 Crore Budget Approved with 50% Subsidy for Farmers

The Uttar Pradesh government is taking significant steps to promote cattle rearing, preserve indigenous breeds, and enhance milk production. As part of this initiative, the 'Nandini Krishak Samriddhi Yojana' has been introduced, offering 50% subsidy on bank loans for livestock farmers.

Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath’s Commitment to Cattle Protection:

Over the past eight years, Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath has set an example in cattle protection. His government has taken strict action against illegal slaughterhouses and completely curbed cattle smuggling. Additionally, continuous efforts are being made to address the issue of stray cattle on the streets.

12.5 Lakh Cattle Given Shelter:

The Yogi government has established over 7,700 cattle shelters, providing a safe haven for 12.5 lakh stray cattle. the Mukhyamantri Sahbhagita Yojana, 1.62 lakh cattle have been distributed to 1 lakh beneficiaries, each receiving ₹1,500 per month for their care. To make cattle shelters self-sustainable, farmers are being trained in vermicompost production and cow dung-urine processing. In collaboration with the National Forage Research Center, Jhansi, efforts are also being made to improve fodder production and preservation.

Yogi Adityanath’s Personal Affection for Cattle:

Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath’s love for cattle is not just symbolic but deeply rooted in faith. Whenever he is at the Gorakhnath Temple, his daily routine begins at the gaushala (cattle shelter). The cows recognize his presence and eagerly gather around him. He personally calls them by name, feeds them green fodder, chickpeas, jaggery, and bread, and tends to their well-being. The Gorakhnath Temple cattle shelter is home to over 400 indigenous breed cattle.

Government Support for Livestock Farmers: To encourage cattle farming, the government is offering financial assistance through various schemes: 'Nandini Krishak Samriddhi Yojana' – 50% subsidy on bank loans to promote indigenous breeds and increase milk production. 'Amrit Dhara Yojana' – Subsidized loans up to ₹10 lakh for farmers rearing 2 to 10 cows, with no guarantor required for loans up to ₹3 lakh.

₹2,000 Crore Budget for Cattle Protection: The Uttar Pradesh government has allocated ₹2,000 crore for cattle protection. In a supplementary budget, ₹1,001 crore was already sanctioned. The funding for large cattle shelters has been increased to ₹1.60 crore. Under the MNREGA scheme, farmers are being provided low-cost cattle sheds and biogas plant facilities.

Promoting Natural Farming through Cattle Shelters: The government aims to make all cattle shelters self-reliant by processing cow dung and urine for organic fertilizers and natural pesticides. This initiative will boost the demand for organic products, increasing farmers' incomes. The Bundelkhand region has been identified as a priority for promoting natural farming.
