The state government has announced a ₹500 per quintal bonus for farmers on the purchase of high-quality rice. The state has witnessed a significant increase in rice production, with a 61% rise in the area under cultivation. The Telangana government estimates that the Civil Supplies Department will procure 80 lakh tons of rice this season through 7,411 procurement centers.
So far, nearly 10 lakh tons of rice have been procured from around 1.41 lakh farmers through these centers. According to government data, the area under rice cultivation last year was around 25 lakh acres, but with the announcement of the bonus, it has increased to 40 lakh acres.
Telangana Chief Minister K. Chandrashekar Rao praised rice farmers through a social media post, noting that despite the challenges posed by the inability to store water from the Kaleshwaram project, rice cultivation has reached record levels in the state. The state government has decided to provide a ₹500 per quintal bonus for high-quality rice under the Minimum Support Price (MSP) scheme.
The state government has announced a ₹500 bonus on the purchase of high-quality Sanna Waddalu rice under MSP. Compared to the previous season, the area under Sanna Waddalu rice cultivation has increased by 61%. On the other hand, there has been a reduction in the area under broken or lower-quality rice cultivation. Last season, rice cultivation covered 41 lakh acres, but it has now reduced to 26.3 lakh acres.
Rice Production Reaches 1.53 Crore Tons: This year, the total rice production has reached 1.53 crore tons, showing a 7% increase compared to last year's 1.46 crore tons. The total area under rice cultivation during the rainy season this year was 66.77 lakh acres, compared to 65.94 lakh acres in the same period last year.
