Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman, while presenting the Budget 2024-25, announced several important measures to enhance productivity in agriculture. She emphasized the introduction of high-yielding varieties, with a special focus on research.
A total of 109 varieties of 32 crops, less affected by adverse weather conditions, will be introduced. There will be a mission-mode effort to boost the production of pulses and oilseeds. Additionally, a cluster scheme will be launched to increase the production of vegetables.
The government aims to encourage one crore farmers to adopt natural farming over the next two years. Special assistance will be provided to these farmers to support this initiative.
Digital Survey and Climate-Resilient Seeds: The fiscal year 2025, a digital survey of Kharif crops will be conducted in 400 districts. Comprehensive research will be undertaken to develop climate-resilient seeds.
Financial Provisions for the Agricultural Sector: The government has earmarked ₹1.52 lakh crore for agriculture and related sectors. This investment aims to boost shrimp production and advance the development of climate-resilient seeds, in partnership with private entities, experts, and other stakeholders.
Self-Reliance in Oilseed Production: New schemes have been announced to achieve self-reliance in oilseed production. This move is expected to be significant in making the country self-sufficient in oil production.
Plans to Increase Production: To increase agricultural production, the government has introduced several schemes aimed at strengthening the agriculture sector and enhancing farmers' incomes. These initiatives will support the economic upliftment of farmers in the future.
