Central Government Raises MSP for 14 Kharif Crops

In a significant move to benefit farmers, the central government has increased the Minimum Support Price (MSP) for 14 Kharif crops ahead of the sowing season. On Wednesday, June 19, the Union Cabinet approved the hike in MSP for the marketing season 2024-25, ensuring that farmers receive a fair price for their produce. This year, the highest increases have been made for oilseeds and pulses compared to last year. The MSP for paddy has been raised by ₹117 to ₹2,300 per quintal. The most significant increase is for nigerseed, which has gone up by ₹983 per quintal, followed by an increase of ₹632 per quintal for tur (arhar).

Approval for MSP Increase on 14 Crops:

A crucial decision for farmers' welfare, the Union Cabinet, chaired by Minister Ashwini Vaishnav, approved the increase in MSP for 14 Kharif crops with the onset of the Kharif season. For the marketing season 2024-25, the government has raised the MSP for paddy by 5.35%, bringing it to ₹2,300 per quintal.

MSP increased on these crops:

For the Kharif season, the MSP for paddy has been increased by ₹117 to ₹2,300 per quintal. The MSP for maize has been raised by ₹135 to ₹2,225 per quintal. Groundnut sees an increase of ₹406 per quintal, bringing its MSP to ₹6,783 per quintal. Soybean MSP has been raised by ₹292 to ₹4,892 per quintal. The MSP for sesame has been increased by ₹632 to ₹9,267 per quintal, for tur (arhar) by ₹550 to ₹7,550 per quintal, and for urad by ₹450 to ₹7,400 per quintal. The MSP for moong has been raised by ₹124 to ₹8,622 per quintal. Other increases include jowar (hybrid) by ₹191 to ₹3,371 per quintal, bajra by ₹125 to ₹2,625 per quintal, sunflower by ₹520 to ₹7,280 per quintal, nigerseed by ₹983 to ₹8,717 per quintal, cotton (medium staple) by ₹501 to ₹7,121 per quintal, and ragi by ₹444 to ₹4,290 per quintal.

Benefits for Farmers: The central government's approval to increase the MSP for 14 Kharif crops will significantly benefit farmers. With the rise in MSP for the marketing season 2024-25, farmers will now earn more profit over their production costs. This move ensures a more secure and profitable farming season for the cultivators.
