With the arrival of December, the intensity of winter has started to be felt across the country. Temperatures have been steadily dropping, and the cold is becoming increasingly harsh. Over the past week, the temperature drop has been particularly sharp, and several states are now experiencing the impact of a cold wave, though some regions remain unaffected so far. Here’s a look at what the weather holds in the coming days according to the Indian Meteorological Department (IMD).
According to IMD, Delhi-NCR will experience clear skies from December 15 to 17. However, smog and moderate fog are expected to persist during the morning and night, reducing visibility. Icy winds will blow at a speed of 4-6 km/h in the morning, gradually increasing during the afternoon, and then decreasing again during the evening and night. The minimum temperature during this period is expected to hover around 5°C. High pollution levels and dense fog are likely to make the situation worse, especially in terms of visibility and air quality. People are advised to be cautious while commuting and take necessary health precautions.
The IMD has warned that several regions of Punjab will experience a cold wave, with some areas facing a severe cold wave. Parts of Madhya Pradesh are also expected to witness similar cold wave conditions, with cold day conditions expected in certain areas.
Northern India, including Jammu & Kashmir, Ladakh, Gilgit-Baltistan, Muzaffarabad, Haryana weather, Chandigarh, and Uttar Pradesh, the cold wave is likely to continue, with temperatures plummeting sharply. Additionally, cold conditions are expected to intensify in parts of eastern Rajasthan, Chhattisgarh, West Bengal, and Odisha. As the cold intensifies across the country, people are advised to stay warm and take precautions to stay healthy, especially when venturing out in the freezing conditions.
