Yesterday, minimum temperatures across Punjab, Haryana-Chandigarh-Delhi, Uttar Pradesh, North Rajasthan, North Madhya Pradesh, and Bihar ranged from 3-7°C. Some areas in Delhi, Uttar Pradesh, North Rajasthan, North Madhya Pradesh, and Bihar experienced temperatures 2-4°C below normal, while Punjab and Haryana reported normal conditions. The lowest minimum temperature, 2.8°C, was recorded in Datia, West Madhya Pradesh. Foggy conditions are likely to persist in parts of Punjab, Haryana, Chandigarh, and Uttar Pradesh from January 23rd to 28th morning, with Delhi expecting dense fog from January 23rd to 25th. Rajasthan and north Madhya Pradesh may also experience dense fog during this period.
Cold Day to Severe Cold Day conditions is anticipated in some parts of Punjab, Haryana on January 23rd and in isolated pockets on January 24th. Uttar Pradesh is expected to experience these conditions from January 23rd to 27th, and isolated pockets of north Rajasthan on January 23rd & 24th. Over the next 5 days, minimum temperatures are forecasted to rise by 2-3°C in northwest India, while the rest of the country is expected to see no significant change. Isolated pockets of Punjab, Haryana & Chandigarh may witness cold wave conditions, from January 23rd to 27th, and north Rajasthan & Gangetic West Bengal on January 23rd. Ground frost conditions are likely at isolated places over Uttarakhand on January 23rd, 2024.
A fresh Western Disturbance is expected to influence the Western Himalayan Region, bringing light isolated rainfall/snowfall from January 25th to 29th.
Additionally, a trough in easterlies from South Interior Karnataka to south Chhattisgarh and an anti-cyclonic circulation over the Northwest Bay of Bengal may result in light rainfall at isolated places in Vidarbha, Telangana, Coastal Andhra Pradesh, Odisha, and West Bengal over the next 3-4 days.
