The cold wave in Madhya Pradesh has intensified over the past two days, with a significant drop in night temperatures in both hilly and plain areas. According to the Meteorological Department, a blanket of dew has been observed in several places during the early hours, and chilly winds are keeping the daytime temperatures low.
On the night of Wednesday to Thursday, the minimum temperature in Kalyanpur, a town in Shahdol district, dropped to below 4°C, marking the coldest temperature of the season so far.
The Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a cold wave alert for more than 9 cities in Madhya Pradesh weather today, including Bhopal, Raisen, Sehore, Vidisha, Rajgarh, Shajapur, Neemuch, and Katni. The alert comes as the cold wave continues to affect various regions of the state, especially in eastern parts, where conditions have been particularly severe. Weather across the state remained dry in the past 24 hours, with the cold wave continuing to grip the region.
On Thursday, Bhopal recorded the lowest maximum temperature among major cities at 23.4°C, while the minimum temperature was 6°C. Other cities also experienced a drop in temperatures, with Gwalior at 23.9°C, Indore at 24.8°C, Jabalpur at 25.6°C, and Ujjain at 26°C. Cold wave alerts have been issued for all these cities.
School Timings Changed Due to Severe Cold: Response to the severe cold, the administration has adjusted school timings in Bhopal, Indore, Vidisha, and Dewas. Schools will now open no earlier than 9 AM. Additionally, changes have been made to the timings of college exams to accommodate the chilly weather. The IMD has forecast that the cold wave will continue in the state for the next two days, with temperatures expected to remain low across most areas.
