On October 2, 2024, Hon'ble Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi inaugurated a 100-ton per day (TPD) cattle dung-based Compressed Biogas (CBG) plant in Gwalior, setting a benchmark for the "Waste to Wealth" initiative.
This state-of-the-art CBG plant is located at Adarsh Gaushala in Laltipara, operated by the Gwalior Municipal Corporation. Home to over 10,000 cattle, this gaushala is the first of its kind in India modern and self-sufficient, equipped with advanced CBG technology. The plant is the first in Madhya Pradesh to utilize cattle dung and organic waste like vegetable and fruit remnants from markets and households to produce biogas.
Spread over 5 acres, this ambitious project has been developed in collaboration with Indian Oil Corporation at an investment of ₹31 crores. It transforms cattle dung into Bio-CNG (compressed natural gas) and organic manure, promoting sustainable practices and reducing carbon emissions.
India’s First Self-Sufficient Gaushala: The Laltipara Gaushala's CBG plant exemplifies successful collaboration between the government and society. Technologically advanced and designed for long-term sustainability, the project balances environmental responsibility with economic and social benefits. As India's first self-sustained gaushala of its kind, this initiative sets a pioneering example for others to emulate, representing a comprehensive approach to sustainable development.
