On October 2, 2024, Hon'ble Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi inaugurated a 100-ton per day (TPD) cattle dung-based Compressed Biogas (CBG) plant in Gwalior, setting a benchmark for the "Waste to Wealth" initiative.

This state-of-the-art CBG plant is located at Adarsh Gaushala in Laltipara, operated by the Gwalior Municipal Corporation. Home to over 10,000 cattle, this gaushala is the first of its kind in India modern and self-sufficient, equipped with advanced CBG technology. The plant is the first in Madhya Pradesh to utilize cattle dung and organic waste like vegetable and fruit remnants from markets and households to produce biogas.

Green Energy and Organic Fertilizer from Cattle Dung:

Spread over 5 acres, this ambitious project has been developed in collaboration with Indian Oil Corporation at an investment of ₹31 crores. It transforms cattle dung into Bio-CNG (compressed natural gas) and organic manure, promoting sustainable practices and reducing carbon emissions.

Key highlights of the project:

  • The plant processes 100 tons of cattle dung daily, generating 2 tons of compressed biogas and 10–15 tons of dry organic manure.
  • It also includes windrow composting facilities for further processing of organic waste.
  • The Bio-CNG produced serves as a cleaner and more sustainable alternative to fossil fuels, reducing dependence on non-renewable resources.

Boost to Employment and Organic Farming:

  • Employment Opportunities: The project creates new jobs for locals and fosters skill development in green energy and sustainable technologies.
  • Encouraging Organic Farming: Affordable and readily available organic fertilizer encourages local farmers to adopt organic farming practices.
  • Environmental Impact: The plant significantly reduces carbon emissions, contributing to climate change mitigation.

India’s First Self-Sufficient Gaushala: The Laltipara Gaushala's CBG plant exemplifies successful collaboration between the government and society. Technologically advanced and designed for long-term sustainability, the project balances environmental responsibility with economic and social benefits. As India's first self-sustained gaushala of its kind, this initiative sets a pioneering example for others to emulate, representing a comprehensive approach to sustainable development.
