A significant decision was made during a cabinet meeting chaired by the Chief Minister of Madhya Pradesh. The meeting resolved to upgrade 12,670 mini Anganwadi centers currently operating in the state to full-fledged Anganwadi centers. Under this decision, each upgraded center will have one Anganwadi worker and one Anganwadi helper. Additionally, one supervisor will be appointed for every 25 Anganwadi centers, resulting in the approval of 476 supervisor positions. Overall, 13,146 new positions, including Anganwadi helpers, will be created.
The upgrade of mini Anganwadi centers will lead to an annual additional financial burden of ₹21,347.71 lakh, with ₹3,401.90 lakh being contributed by the central government and ₹17,945.82 lakh by the state government.
The cabinet also approved the creation of 6,388 new posts (5,936 regular and 452 contractual) in 454 health institutions under the Department of Public Health and Medical Education. Additionally, 1,589 posts will be filled through outsourcing agencies. The estimated annual expenditure for these new posts is ₹351.17 crore, which has been approved.
The Ministry of Women and Child Development had earlier decided in May 2023 to upgrade all mini Anganwadi centers to full-fledged ones. Minister Bhuriya explained that the upgrade was necessary to ensure the physical, mental, and intellectual development of children under six, along with the implementation of daily pre-school education and malnutrition prevention programs. This decision will create job opportunities for more than 12,000 people in the state, marking a significant employment boost.
