According to air quality forecasts provided by IMD/IITM, Delhi's air quality is likely to remain in the 'Very Poor' category in the coming days due to unfavorable weather and climatic conditions.
Delhi's AQI Recorded at 310, Classified as 'Very Poor'
As per the daily AQI bulletin released by the Pollution Control Board, Delhi's daily average Air Quality Index (AQI) is recorded at 310, indicating a 'Very Poor' classification. The Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) and the Indian Institute of Tropical Meteorology (IITM) have projected that adverse weather and climatic conditions will likely keep Delhi's AQI in the 'Very Poor' range in the upcoming days.
In light of the current air quality levels, the sub-committee has concluded that Delhi is expected to remain in the 'Very Poor' AQI category. To prevent further deterioration of air quality, the sub-committee has decided to implement an 11-point action plan under Stage-II of the revised Graded Response Action Plan (GRAP) across the entire NCR starting from October 22, 2024. All actions mandated under Stage-I will also be strictly enforced.
Appeal to Citizens to Follow Stage-I Guidelines of GRAP
- Utilize public transport and minimize the use of personal vehicles.
- Use technology to choose less congested routes, even if they are slightly longer.
- Regularly replace air filters in your vehicles.
- Avoid open burning of solid waste and biomass.
Implementation of 11-Point Action Plan under Stage-II in NCR
- Conduct mechanical/vacuum sweeping and water sprinkling on identified roads daily.
- Ensure regular water sprinkling and dust control measures on roads to mitigate road dust.
- Intensify inspections to enforce dust control measures at construction sites.
- Implement targeted actions to reduce air pollution in identified hotspots across NCR.
- Ensure uninterrupted power supply to discourage the use of alternative power-generating sets (e.g., diesel generators).
- Strictly adhere to the regulations for operating diesel generators across all sectors.
- Deploy sufficient personnel at traffic junctions to ensure smooth traffic flow.
- Disseminate information about air pollution levels and preventive measures through newspapers, TV, and radio.
- Increase parking fees to discourage the use of private vehicles.
- Enhance CNG/electric bus and metro services by adding more fleet and increasing service frequency.
- Resident Welfare Associations (RWAs) should provide electric heaters for security personnel to prevent open burning of biomass and solid waste during winter.
