Totapuri mangoes, renowned for their distinctive shape and tangy flavor, are primarily available during the summer season. Farmers in the Chittoor and Tirupati districts of Andhra Pradesh are advocating for fair pricing, especially for this prized variety. Initially, district collectors established a minimum support price of ₹30,000 per ton for Totapuri mangoes, contrasting with the initial price set by traders in Karnataka and Tamil Nadu at ₹28,000 per ton.
Despite heavy investments by farmers in orchards cultivating Totapuri mangoes in Chittoor and Tirupati, a significant yield decline led to inadequate returns. To address this issue, district collectors collaborated with horticulture and marketing officials to raise the Minimum Support Price (MSP) to ₹30,000 per ton. This adjustment aims to alleviate concerns among mango farmers about fair pricing.
Totapuri mangoes are prized for their unique characteristics, from their vibrant color to their enticing aroma. Their distinct shape, reminiscent of a parrot's beak, makes them ideal for salads due to their mild sweetness and juiciness. Packed with Vitamin C, B, and antioxidants, Totapuri mangoes maintain their quality for 4-5 days when stored in a refrigerator.
Known for their yellow-orange flesh and mildly tangy taste, Totapuri mangoes are predominantly cultivated in Karnataka, Andhra Pradesh, and Telangana. Their distinctive appearance has earned them the name Totapuri, making them a popular choice in various markets across India. In Patna and other markets, Totapuri mangoes fetch prices ranging from ₹150 to ₹200 per kilogram, reflecting their demand and unique flavor profile.
