Weather Update: Dry season begins in many states, know the weather of your city

Weather in Western India
Weather in Western India

The Southwest Monsoon is set to withdraw from parts of Gujarat, Madhya Pradesh, Uttar Pradesh, Maharashtra, and Bihar over the next 2-3 days, creating favorable conditions for the onset of dry weather across these regions. With the monsoon retreating, the country is now transitioning into the post-monsoon season.

Weather Systems Overview:

A low-pressure area currently lies over the east-central Arabian Sea and the surrounding Lakshadweep region. It is expected to move northwestward and intensify into a depression over the central Arabian Sea in the next 3-4 days. Additionally, a trough extends from the Comorin area to the north Konkan coast, linked with the cyclonic circulation associated with the low-pressure system. Cyclonic circulations are also present over East Assam and Sri Lanka, influencing weather patterns in the lower and middle atmospheric levels.

Weather in Western India:

Light to moderate rainfall is expected over Konkan and Goa throughout the week. Some parts of Maharashtra could also experience isolated rainfall during this period. From October 10th to 12th, heavy rain is likely in parts of Konkan, Goa, and Madhya Maharashtra, which may create challenging weather conditions in these regions.

Northwest, East, and Central India:

No significant rainfall is expected in these regions during the coming week, signaling a period of dry weather. This will provide relief to farmers, giving them an opportunity to manage their crops and agricultural activities without the concern of excess rain.

Today Forecast (October 10th):

The Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) has predicted heavy rainfall in parts of Assam, Arunachal Pradesh, Meghalaya, Goa, Madhya Maharashtra, Kerala, Tamil Nadu, Puducherry, Lakshadweep, and coastal Karnataka on October 10th. Telangana may experience thunderstorms with gusty winds (30-40 kmph), while lightning strikes are expected in areas including East Madhya Pradesh, Vidarbha, Chhattisgarh weather, Konkan, Gujarat, and Tamil Nadu, among others.

Impact and Agricultural Advisory: Tamil Nadu is likely to experience heavy to very heavy rainfall between October 12th and 14th, prompting farmers to drain excess water from paddy nurseries and postpone harvesting millet crops. Similarly, Kerala and Mahe may face heavy rains on October 12th and 13th, requiring additional precautions to protect fields and horticultural crops.

Farmers in Goa, Madhya Maharashtra, Kerala, Lakshadweep, coastal Karnataka, and parts of the Northeast are advised to clear excess water from fields and provide mechanical support to horticultural crops. Additionally, harvested produce should be stored in safe places to avoid damage from strong winds and rainfall.
