Madhya Pradesh is set to establish food processing units for horticultural crops under the “One District-One Product” scheme. The state government is preparing a comprehensive action plan for this initiative. Once these food processing units are established at district and divisional levels, farmers will be able to get fair prices for their produce.
The minister highlighted that over the last 20 years, irrigation facilities have been significantly expanded in the state, and affordable electricity is being supplied to farmers. As a result, agricultural production has increased substantially. Farmers are moving beyond traditional farming methods and are now focusing on cash crops. The state government is committed to ensuring that farmers growing horticultural crops receive fair prices for their produce. The Minister of Horticulture and Food Processing, Shri Kushwaha, recently visited Nagpur to observe organic orange farming. He noted that Madhya Pradesh also has a substantial orange production base. To enhance orange cultivation in the state, farmers will be sent on study tours to Nagpur, where they can learn and understand organic orange farming practices to improve their own yields.
The minister stated that due to the hard work and dedication of farmers, Madhya Pradesh has become the leading state in the country, producing 54 lakh metric tons of spice crops. He encouraged small and medium farmers to grow cash crops like coriander, turmeric, chili, ginger, garlic, and cumin alongside traditional crops. These crops mature in a short time and fetch good prices in the market. Farmers were also advised to adopt horticulture and floriculture to diversify their income. The state and central governments are providing subsidies and other support for these activities, including high-quality seeds and saplings through government nurseries.
From Crop Preservation to High-Tech Nurseries: High-tech nurseries have been developed in Madhya Pradesh to support farmers.
