The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has predicted that the country will experience higher-than-normal temperatures from April to June. Central, eastern, and northwestern regions are likely to witness an increased number of heatwave days. Typically, heatwaves last for 4 to 7 days during this period, but this year, the duration could double.

Which States Will Be the Hottest?

According to IMD, Rajasthan, Gujarat, Haryana, Punjab, Madhya Pradesh, Maharashtra, Uttar Pradesh Weather, Bihar, Jharkhand, West Bengal, Odisha, Chhattisgarh, Telangana, Andhra Pradesh, Karnataka, and northern Tamil Nadu are expected to experience extreme heat. Both maximum and minimum temperatures in these states will likely remain above normal.

Challenges and Problems Due to Heat:

  1. Increased Power Demand: Experts estimate that electricity demand could rise by 9-10% due to extreme heat, potentially causing power shortages.
  2. Health Risks: Heatwaves may lead to dehydration, dizziness, and heatstroke, especially affecting farmers, laborers, and people working outdoors.
  3. Water Scarcity: Rising temperatures may lower groundwater levels, leading to water shortages in rural areas. Livestock could also face drinking water issues.
  4. Impact on Crops: Higher temperatures can damage crops, reducing yields and causing financial losses for farmers.

Possibility of Rain in Gujarat:

Some parts of Gujarat may experience unseasonal rain over the next four days. IMD reports that a cyclonic weather pattern extending from Marathwada to Chhattisgarh and Tamil Nadu could bring light to moderate rainfall in certain districts. However, from April 4 to 6, the weather will remain dry, with temperatures around 40°C.
Heat Protection Tips

To stay safe from extreme heat:

  1. Wear light, cotton clothes and drink plenty of water.
  2. Avoid stepping out in direct sunlight, especially in the afternoon.
  3. Keep livestock in shaded areas and provide them with adequate water.

With an intense summer ahead, it’s crucial to take necessary precautions to avoid heat-related illnesses. Stay alert and protect yourself from heatwaves.
