In New Delhi, technology plays a crucial role in agriculture, enabling farmers to boost their profits by adopting innovative methods for increased crop yields. While some farmers engage in developing scientific solutions for various tasks, others explore practical techniques independently. A notable example comes from Baramati, Maharashtra, where a farmer ingeniously repurposed his Splendor bike into a functional tractor. This resourceful transformation has proven highly beneficial, drawing the attention of fellow farmers.

Transformation of a Scrap Bike into a Tractor:

Appa Saheb Bavkar, the farmer behind this initiative, assembled parts of a discarded motorcycle to create a mini-tractor that effectively operates in the fields. This makeshift tractor facilitates essential tasks like plowing and sowing, making agricultural activities more accessible. The tractor garnered significant attention when exhibited at an agricultural event organized by the Baramati Agricultural Science Center.

Media reports underscore Appa Saheb Bavkar's emphasis on the growing significance of technology in farming. Despite technological advancements, farmers grapple with labor shortages, making tasks such as plowing, sowing seeds, and applying fertilizers both time-consuming and expensive. To address these challenges, the bike-converted tractor provides a practical solution. The rear tire of an old Splendor bike was replaced, and a makeshift mechanism for plowing and sowing materials was added. This modification offers farmers a cost-effective alternative, significantly easing their financial burden.

The Conversion Process:

Appa Saheb Bavkar detailed how he incurred minimal expenses by utilizing his bike to fashion the tractor at home. The rear tire was removed, and a plowing mechanism was attached in its place. Two tires were combined to give the bike a mini-tractor appearance. Once converted, the farmer uses the tractor for plowing his fields, and a shade has been installed to shield him from the sun during work.

Functional Features:

Appa Saheb Bavkar ingeniously integrated a reverse gear into the Splendor bike's engine for the tractor. He devised a box where a clutch plate and a reverse gear were added. Engaging the reverse gear causes the tractor to move backward. A distinctive feature of this mini-tractor is its ability to maneuver in tight spaces, thanks to its three-wheeled structure. This makeshift solution allows the efficient cultivation, sowing, and plowing of an acre of land using just one liter of petrol.
