Four advanced Sugarcane varieties Developed by ICAR, Key features and benefits

Karan-17 (Co 17018): Karan-17 (Co 17018) is an advanced sugarcane variety developed by the ICAR-Sugarcane Breeding Institute, Coimbatore, Tamil Nadu. This variety is suitable for north-western regions, including Haryana, Punjab, western and central Uttar Pradesh, Rajasthan, and Uttarakhand. It is ideal for irrigated areas and is suitable for timely or late sowing.

Yield: 914.8 quintals per hectare.
Maturity Period: 330-360 days.
Sucrose Content: 18.38%.
Features: Tolerant to salinity, moderately resistant to red rot, less susceptible to smut, and exhibits low sensitivity to shoot borer, stalk borer, and top borer.

IKHSU-16 (CoLk 16202):

IKHSU-16 is another advanced variety developed by the ICAR-Indian Institute of Sugarcane Research, Lucknow, Uttar Pradesh. It is suitable for Punjab, Haryana, Uttarakhand, Rajasthan, and the western and central regions of Uttar Pradesh.

Yield: 932 quintals per hectare.
Maturity Period: 10 months (early).
Sucrose Content: 17.74%.
Features: Drought-tolerant and moderately resistant to red rot pathogens CF08 and CF13, smut, and wilt.

IKHSU-17 (CoLk 16470):

IKHSU-17 is an advanced sugarcane variety developed by the ICAR-Indian Institute of Sugarcane Research, Lucknow, Uttar Pradesh. It is ideal for eastern Uttar Pradesh, Bihar, Jharkhand, West Bengal, and Assam.

Yield: 825 quintals per hectare.
Maturity Period: 360 days.
Sucrose Content: 17.37%.
CCS Yield: 95.9 quintals per hectare.
Features: Performs well under irrigated and waterlogged conditions, moderately resistant to red rot and smut, and has low susceptibility to major pests.

CoPb-99 (CoPb 17215): CoPb-99 is an advanced variety developed by ICAR-AICRP on Sugarcane at PAU Regional Research Station, Kapurthala, Punjab. It is suited for Punjab, Haryana, Uttarakhand, Rajasthan, and the western and central regions of Uttar Pradesh.

Yield: 901.4 quintals per hectare (average).
CCS Yield: 112.7 quintals per hectare.
Sucrose Content: 18.01%.
Maturity Period: 12 months (mid-late).
Features: Moderately resistant to prevalent red rot races and less susceptible to early shoot borer, stalk borer, and top borer.
