The Rajasthan government is providing free seed minikits to over 2.4 million women farmers to enhance their participation in agriculture and promote self-reliance among them. Under this initiative launched by Chief Minister Shri Bhajanlal Sharma, the Agriculture Department has distributed free seed minikits of crops like moong, moth, sorghum, maize, and millet to over 2.4 million women farmers.
Agriculture Commissioner Ms. Chinmayi Gopal shared that as per the 2024-25 budget announcement, the Agriculture Department distributed free seed minikits to a total of 2.458 million women farmers during the Kharif season 2024. This included 400,000 minikits of 4 kg moong seeds, 89,000 minikits of 4 kg sorghum seeds, 100,000 minikits of 4 kg moth seeds, 790,000 minikits of 1.5 kg millet seeds, and 1.079 million minikits of 5 kg maize seeds, all provided free of charge to women farmers.
Priority for the distribution of these minikits was given to various groups such as scheduled castes, scheduled tribes, small and marginal farmers, self-help groups, differently-abled women, and women living below the poverty line. Each woman farmer received one minikit. The distribution was carried out through agricultural supervisors and reached the farmers via their Jan Aadhaar card.
Geeta Devi, a resident of Dausa district, shared her experience, stating that she received a free 1.5 kg millet seed minikit from the state government. She used these high-quality seeds for sowing on one bigha of land and is hopeful that this year’s yield will provide higher profits compared to the previous year due to the superior quality of the seeds.
