The state government has issued directives to facilitate diesel subsidy for irrigation to farmers. Around 4.50 lakh registered farmers in the Purnia district will directly benefit from a subsidy of Rs. 75 per liter of diesel. This will provide significant relief to the farmers. According to the District Agriculture Officer of Purnia, Sudhir Kumar, the state government has decided to provide a subsidy of Rs. 75 per liter of diesel used for irrigation through diesel pump sets to the farmers. For each acre of land, considering the requirement of 10 liters of diesel for irrigation of kharif crops, the subsidy will be given at the rate of Rs. 750 per acre per irrigation.
As per the report by News 18, in the case of standing crops like paddy, maize, and other kharif crops, a subsidy of Rs. 2,250 per acre will be provided for a maximum of three irrigations. This applies to crops such as pulses, sesame, seasonal vegetables, medicinal plants, and aromatic crops. He further explained that the maximum diesel subsidy will be given for up to 8 acres per farmer, and only one member of the family will be eligible for this benefit. In case of division or separate circumstances of different families within the same landholding, separate applications can be submitted. However, multiple applications for the same land should not be made. Both tenant and non-tenant farmers in the category of beneficiaries will receive the benefit of diesel subsidy for irrigation of standing crops. All the required information must be provided for availing of this subsidy. Diesel purchased from petrol pumps outside the state will not be eligible for subsidy.
