Government Approves Digital Agriculture Mission to Provide Accurate and Reliable Information to Farmers

Digital Agriculture Mission
Digital Agriculture Mission

The government has approved the Digital Agriculture Mission on September 2, 2024, with a budget allocation of ₹2,817 crore. The mission aims to establish a robust digital agriculture ecosystem that provides timely and reliable crop-related information to farmers and enables innovative digital solutions for the agriculture sector.

Key Components of the Digital Agriculture Mission:

this mission, the government will develop Digital Public Infrastructure for agriculture, which includes AgriStack, Krishi Decision Support System, Comprehensive Soil Fertility Map, and other IT-based initiatives undertaken by the Central and State Governments.
A major component of this mission is the AgriStack project, which consists of three foundational databases in the agriculture sector:

  1. Farmers’ Registry – A comprehensive database of farmers' details.
  2. Geo-Referenced Village Maps – Digital maps for accurate agricultural planning.
  3. Crop Sown Registry – Information on crops cultivated in different regions.

These databases will be created and maintained by State Governments and Union Territories. The Central Government is providing administrative and technical support to states for the effective implementation of this mission.
Through AgriStack, farmers will be able to digitally access services such as credit, insurance, procurement, and transactions. Additionally, they will get a secure and reliable platform for buying and selling inputs and produce online.

Benefits of e-NAM for Farmers: The government is also implementing the National Agriculture Market (e-NAM), a virtual platform that integrates physical wholesale markets across various states and Union Territories. This system ensures transparent price discovery and enables farmers to get better prices for their produce. As of December 31, 2024, 1,410 mandis from 23 states and 4 Union Territories have been integrated into the e-NAM platform.
