The central government has provided a significant gift to farmers by approving an increase in the Minimum Support Price (MSP) for rabi crops for the 2025-26 season. The MSP for wheat has been raised by ₹150 per quintal, and there has also been an increase in the MSP for mustard and chickpeas.
With the onset of October, the sowing of rabi crops, including wheat, chickpeas, and mustard, has commenced on a large scale. This year, due to favorable monsoon rains, the kharif season has witnessed a higher-than-normal sowing of paddy, millets, oilseeds, and sugarcane. As a result, crops have been sown across an area exceeding 1,104 lakh hectares, compared to 1,088.26 lakh hectares last year.
Farmers have already started sowing rabi crops, including wheat, chickpeas, and mustard. In some parts of the country, sowing for rabi crops has already taken place. To ensure farmers receive good prices for their rabi crops, the central government has made a significant announcement regarding the increase in MSP.
The Union Cabinet has approved an increase in the MSP for rabi crops for the 2025-26 season. The MSP for wheat has been raised by ₹150 per quintal, increasing it from ₹2,275 per quintal to ₹2,425 per quintal.
In addition to wheat, the Union Cabinet has also approved an increase in the MSP for mustard and chickpeas. The MSP for mustard has been raised by ₹300 per quintal, bringing it to ₹5,950. Furthermore, the MSP for chickpeas has been increased by ₹210, now set at ₹5,650 per quintal.
