The Punjab government has launched a scheme to provide solar pump facilities to farmers. Applications for this scheme started on September 9, and farmers can apply until September 30. The government aims to increase farmers' income through such initiatives. Under this scheme, 20,000 solar pump sets will be provided to farmers across the state.
The Punjab government is offering subsidies on new surface and submersible solar pump sets of varying HP (horsepower). The cost of a 3 HP surface solar pump is ₹2,03,702, while a submersible solar pump costs ₹2,09,392. For 5 HP solar pumps, the surface model is priced at ₹2,97,018, and the submersible model costs ₹3,03,846. Farmers from the general category will receive a 60% subsidy on the cost of the solar pump, while farmers from the SC (Scheduled Caste) category will be provided with an 80% subsidy.
The government aims to alleviate the difficulties faced by farmers in irrigating their crops. With this scheme, farmers will no longer need to rely on electricity for irrigation, making the process easier. Additionally, they will not have to stay up late to irrigate their fields, and the cost of installing solar pumps will also be reduced. This scheme is particularly beneficial for the millions of farmers across the country who struggles to afford the costs of planting crops.
The application process for this scheme started on September 9, 2024, and farmers can apply until September 30, 2024. The scheme operates on a "first-come, first-served" basis.
