Big Relief for Farmers: PM-AASHA Scheme Extended Till 2025-26, Groundnut and Soybean Procurement Period Extended

The Government of India has approved the continuation of the Pradhan Mantri Annadata Aay Sanrakshan Abhiyan (PM-AASHA) under the 15th Finance Commission cycle until 2025-26. Union Minister of Agriculture and Farmers’ Welfare, Shri Shivraj Singh Chouhan, has also approved the extension of the procurement period for groundnut in Gujarat and Karnataka, as well as for soybean in Maharashtra and Telangana, in the interest of farmers.

Extension of Groundnut Procurement Period in Gujarat and Karnataka:

The Price Support Scheme (PSS) of the PM-AASHA initiative, groundnut procurement for the Kharif 2024-25 season is being conducted in Andhra Pradesh, Chhattisgarh, Gujarat, Haryana, Karnataka, Rajasthan, and Uttar Pradesh. As of February 9, 2025, a total of 15.73 lakh metric tonnes of groundnut has been procured, benefiting 4,75,183 farmers. To further support farmers, Agriculture Minister Shri Shivraj Singh Chouhan has approved an extension of the procurement period by six days in Gujarat and 25 days in Karnataka, allowing more time for farmers to sell their produce.

Extension of Soybean Procurement Period in Maharashtra and Telangana:

The government had earlier approved soybean procurement under the PSS in Chhattisgarh, Gujarat, Karnataka, Madhya Pradesh, Maharashtra, Rajasthan, and Telangana for the Kharif 2024-25 season. As of February 9, 2025, approximately 19.99 lakh metric tonnes of soybean have been procured, benefiting 8,46,251 farmers. In a move to further assist farmers, Agriculture Minister Shri Chouhan has extended the procurement period by 24 days in Maharashtra and 15 days in Telangana, ensuring that farmers receive fair prices for their produce.

PM-AASHA Scheme to Continue Until 2025-26: The government has given its approval to continue the PM-AASHA scheme until 2025-26, ensuring that farmers receive remunerative prices for their crops. This initiative includes the Price Support Scheme (PSS), Price Deficiency Payment Scheme (PDPS), and Market Intervention Scheme (MIS), which play a crucial role in stabilizing agricultural prices and protecting farmers’ incomes.

100% Procurement Approval for Tur, Urad, and Masur: The government has approved the procurement of tur, urad, and masur up to 100% of the total production of each state for the 2024-25 seasons. Additionally, in the Union Budget 2025, it was announced that this 100% procurement policy for tur, urad, and masur will continue for the next four years. This move aims to boost domestic pulse production and reduce dependency on imports.
