Farmer Welfare and Agriculture Development Minister, Mr. Aidal Singh Kansana, emphasized that stubble burning not only reduces soil fertility but also severely impacts the environment. To protect farmers from these adverse effects, the Agriculture Department is running continuous awareness campaigns. He highlighted that the Happy Seeder is a high-tech machine that allows direct sowing in fields with crop residue (stubble) without burning it.

Stubble Management to Improve Soil Health:

The Minister explained that leaving stubble in the field increases organic content in the soil, thereby improving its water retention capacity and fertility. Stubble also covers the soil surface, reducing evaporation and conserving soil moisture. Additionally, it helps suppress weed growth, minimizes soil erosion, and aids in the recycling of essential nutrients.

Happy Seeder: A Valuable Tool for Summer Moong Cultivation:

The Happy Seeder proves to be an effective tool for sustainable zero-tillage agricultural practices, especially beneficial for the sowing of summer moong. Farmers are encouraged to leave crop residues in the field after harvesting, and if the volume is excessive, they can chop and spread it evenly. This technique supports moisture conservation, weed control, and soil temperature regulation.

High-Quality Organic Manure and Disease Prevention:

Minister Kansana also suggested that stubble, when combined with other organic waste, can be converted into high-quality organic manure, which is an excellent nutrient source for crops like moong. However, if the previous crop was affected by pests or diseases, the residue should be treated before being left in the field.

Subsidy of ₹1.05 Lakh Available on Happy Seeder:

The estimated cost of a Happy Seeder machine ranges from ₹2.60 lakh to ₹2.85 lakh. The Agriculture Engineering Department is offering a subsidy of up to ₹1.05 lakh to farmers. Interested farmers can apply online through the e-Krishi Yantra Anudan Portal to avail of this benefit. Minister Kansana appealed to farmers to adopt scientific and sustainable alternatives instead of burning stubble so that agriculture becomes both profitable and environmentally friendly.
