The Haryana government has delivered substantial relief to farmers by purchasing paddy at a rate 12 times higher than Punjab under the Minimum Support Price (MSP) scheme. So far, Haryana has procured 1,18,763 metric tons of paddy, whereas Punjab has only managed to procure 9,433 metric tons.
According to an official spokesperson, as of October 4, a total of 4,37,775 metric tons of paddy has arrived at various markets across the state. Out of this, 1,18,763 metric tons have been purchased by government agencies. More than 15,000 farmers have received approximately ₹12.85 crore directly into their bank accounts for their produce.
The spokesperson for the Food Supplies Department stated that several government agencies are involved in the ongoing paddy procurement process, which will continue until November 15, 2024. Paddy is being purchased at the MSP rate, with the price set at ₹2,300 per quintal for common paddy and ₹2,320 per quintal for Grade-A paddy. The procurement is taking place at around 241 centers across the state, and instructions have been issued to accept paddy with moisture content of up to 17%.
The department spokesperson also highlighted that Kurukshetra district has recorded the highest procurement, with over 40,227 metric tons of paddy purchased so far. Other districts include Yamunanagar with 28,116 metric tons, Karnal with 10,774 metric tons, Kaithal with 3,436 metric tons, Ambala with 30,149 metric tons, and Panchkula with 5,424 metric tons of paddy procured.
