Highlighting the bilateral relations between India and Moldova, Dr. Devesh Chaturvedi, Secretary, Department of Agriculture and Farmers Welfare, welcomed Ms. Ana Taban, Ambassador of the Republic of Moldova to India. He discussed India’s agricultural priorities, including achieving self-sufficiency in oilseeds and pulses, promoting crop diversification, advancing the Digital Agriculture Mission, and implementing policies to enhance service delivery to farmers. Dr. Chaturvedi also highlighted the "Clean Plant Programme" aimed at providing disease-free horticultural planting materials and the "National Mission on Natural Farming" designed to promote sustainable agriculture.
Ambassador Ana Taban shared insights into Moldova's agricultural sector, outlining the challenges faced and the robust network of Free Trade Agreements (FTAs) that Moldova has with various countries. She emphasized the potential market opportunities arising from these agreements.
The Ambassador also discussed the status of approval for establishing a Joint Working Group (JWG) through a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) and sought favorable consideration for market access for apples.
Joint Secretary (International Cooperation) of the Department of Agriculture & Farmers’ Welfare highlighted potential areas of collaboration post-MoU signing. These included knowledge exchange, technology transfer, research and development collaborations with agricultural universities, and trade opportunities in farm equipment between India and Moldova.
