The plains of northern India are currently experiencing extreme heat. As the morning progresses, temperatures rise sharply, and a severe heatwave ensues. Residents are facing intense heat and scorching winds when stepping outside. According to the Meteorological Department, there is no immediate relief from the heatwave for the northern plains of India. The current situation is due to dry and hot winds coupled with clear skies, which have caused temperatures to soar, making conditions uncomfortable for people.
Today, June 15, heatwave conditions are expected in parts of Punjab, Haryana, Delhi, western Uttar Pradesh, Uttarakhand, Jharkhand, and Bihar. Severe heatwave conditions are likely in the plains of West Bengal, eastern Uttar Pradesh, Bihar, and Jharkhand. The IMD indicates that heatwave conditions may persist until June 18 in parts of Punjab, Haryana-Chandigarh, Delhi, Uttar Pradesh, and several northern and central Indian states, including Bihar and Jharkhand.
According to the IMD, several areas in Uttar Pradesh are under heatwave alert, with severe heatwave conditions predicted in parts of eastern and southern Uttar Pradesh Weather. Prayagraj in Uttar Pradesh recorded the highest temperature in the country at 46.9 degrees Celsius. Several hilly states are also affected by the heatwave, including multiple cities in Himachal Pradesh. The temperature has risen so significantly that heatwave alerts have been issued not only for Himachal but also for northern hilly areas like Uttarakhand, Punjab, and Haryana. On June 14, Una in Himachal Pradesh recorded a temperature of 43.6 degrees Celsius, higher than that of Bikaner in Rajasthan, and Chapra and Patna in Bihar.
