To ensure environmental protection and public health, the National Green Tribunal (NGT) has imposed a complete ban on stubble burning after the harvesting of paddy and wheat crops. Strict action will be taken against those violating this directive.
The Environment Department has prescribed economic penalties (environmental compensation) for stubble burning ₹2,500 fine for burning stubble on land up to 2 acres. ₹5,000 fine for land between 2 to 5 acres. ₹15,000 fine per incident for land over 5 acres.
Satellite-Based Monitoring: The Indian Council of Agricultural Research (ICAR-CREAMS) is monitoring stubble burning incidents across the country via satellite. Any individual, farmer, or organization found violating the ban will face strict action by the concerned agricultural authorities.
Promotion of Alternative Crop Residue Management: The Agriculture Department has been instructed to educate farmers on adopting alternative crop residue management methods. This initiative aims to protect the environment, public health, and the well-being of animals.
