The Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued warnings of heavy to extremely heavy rainfall across various parts of the country between August 16 and 20. Here’s the latest weather forecast.
Extremely Heavy Rainfall: The IMD has issued an alert for extremely heavy rainfall today, August 16, in Odisha and on August 17 in parts of Chhattisgarh.
Heavy to Very Heavy Rainfall: Areas in Gangetic West Bengal, Jharkhand, Odisha, Tamil Nadu, Puducherry & Karaikal, Kerala, and Mahe are likely to experience heavy to very heavy rainfall.
Heavy Rainfall: Regions including Jammu & Kashmir-Ladakh-Gilgit-Baltistan-Muzaffarabad, Himachal Pradesh, Uttarakhand, Uttar Pradesh, West Rajasthan, Bihar, Nagaland, Manipur, Mizoram & Tripura, Lakshadweep, Rayalaseema, and South Interior Karnataka are also expected to see heavy rainfall.
Thunderstorms: Thunderstorms accompanied by lightning are likely in parts of Madhya Pradesh, Vidarbha, Chhattisgarh, Bihar, and the northeastern states including Nagaland, Manipur, Mizoram, and Tripura.
Strong Winds: The Kerala coast, Lakshadweep, Maldives, and adjacent southeastern Arabian Sea, Comorin area, Gulf of Mannar, and off the Sri Lanka coast may experience strong winds with speeds ranging from 35 to 45 kmph, gusting up to 55 kmph. In parts of the west-central and southwest Arabian Sea, including areas near Somalia and Oman, winds are expected to reach speeds of 45 to 55 kmph, with gusts up to 65 kmph.
Advisory for Fishermen: Due to these challenging weather conditions, fishermen are advised to avoid venturing into these areas. Stay updated on weather forecasts and take necessary precautions to ensure safety during this period.
