India Weather Alert: Heavy Rain & Heatwave Today

June 6, 2024 Heavy Rainfall Expected in Several Regions, The Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) has predicted heavy rainfall today in the following areas:

  1. Sub-Himalayan West Bengal and Sikkim
  2. Arunachal Pradesh
  3. Assam and Meghalaya
  4. Konkan and Goa
  5. Madhya Maharashtra
  6. Marathwada
  7. Tamil Nadu, Puducherry, and Karaikal
  8. Kerala and Mahe
  9. Interior Karnataka

Yesterday, heavy rainfall was recorded in isolated places over the Andaman and Nicobar Islands.

Thunderstorms and Wind Alerts: The IMD has issued alerts for thunderstorms and high winds in several regions:

Severe Thunderstorm (50-60 kmph winds): Isolated places in Madhya Pradesh.
Thunderstorm/Duststorm (50-60 kmph winds): Isolated places in Punjab.
Thunderstorm with Lightning and Gusty Winds (40-50 kmph): Jammu & Kashmir, Ladakh, Gilgit-Baltistan-Muzaffarabad, Uttarakhand, Sub-Himalayan West Bengal & Sikkim, Bihar, Odisha, Vidarbha, Chhattisgarh, Goa, Madhya Maharashtra, Marathwada, and Interior Karnataka.
Thunderstorm with Lightning and Gusty Winds (40-50 kmph): Haryana, Chandigarh, Delhi, and Rajasthan.

Heatwave Conditions: Heatwave conditions are likely in isolated pockets of Uttar Pradesh, eastern Madhya Pradesh, Bihar Weather, and Jharkhand. Yesterday, heatwave conditions were observed in southern Uttar Pradesh, parts of Delhi, isolated pockets of Haryana, and northern Madhya Pradesh.

Hot and Humid Weather: Hot and humid weather is expected in West Bengal and Odisha.

Squally Weather Expected:

Squally Weather (35-45 kmph, gusting to 55 kmph): Expected along and off the south Maharashtra, Konkan, and Goa coasts; over the Gulf of Mannar and adjoining Comorin area; along and off the Sri Lanka coast; off the Tamil Nadu coast; in the southwest Bay of Bengal and adjoining southeast Bay of Bengal; in adjoining southern parts of the central Bay of Bengal; and in the north Andaman Sea.
Stronger Winds (45-55 kmph, gusting to 65 kmph): Expected along and off the Somalia coast; in the southwest and adjoining west-central Arabian Sea.

Advisory for Fishermen: Fishermen are advised not to venture into these areas due to the expected squally weather and strong winds.
