On December 27, 2024, some media reports alleged "irregularities" in the appointments of agricultural scientists at the Indian Council of Agricultural Research (ICAR), calling for an investigation. ICAR has firmly rejected these allegations, describing them as baseless and misleading. we will address these accusations and clarify ICAR's stance with the correct facts.

Introduction to ICAR and Its Functions:

The Indian Council of Agricultural Research (ICAR) is a premier scientific body the Ministry of Agriculture and Farmers Welfare, Government of India. ICAR is responsible for agricultural research, education, and extension activities across the country. Its goal is to empower Indian agriculture through technology, science, and research. The operations of ICAR are governed by its prescribed rules and code of conduct, and its President is the Minister of Agriculture and Farmers Welfare.

No Irregularities in Appointments:

ICAR has firmly rejected the recent allegations in the media claiming irregularities in the appointments of agricultural scientists. In reality, all appointments have been made with complete transparency and based on recognized qualifications. No discrepancies or alterations have been made during these appointments.

Appointment Process for Director of IARI:

There have been claims in some media reports alleging changes in the qualifications required for the post of Director of the Indian Agricultural Research Institute (IARI), New Delhi. However, this is completely false. The essential qualifications (EQs) for the Director's position remain the same as they were in 2019. The previous director, Dr. A.K. Singh, was appointed based on these same qualifications, and his tenure ended in 2024.

Appointment of Dr. Cherukumalli Srinivas Rao: There were also claims regarding the appointment of Dr. Cherukumalli Srinivas Rao as Director of IARI. ICAR has clarified that there were no irregularities in this appointment. Dr. Rao previously served as the Director of the National Academy of Agricultural Research Management (NAARM), Hyderabad, and after completing his tenure, he was formally released from that role before taking over as Director of IARI. No rules were violated during this process, and everything was done according to the established procedures.

Purpose Behind the Allegations: ICAR believes that certain disgruntled individuals are deliberately spreading false rumors to tarnish the organization’s reputation. It is unfortunate that some people are propagating misinformation for personal gains. ICAR has made it clear that these rumors are unfounded and only serve to damage the reputation of the organization.

Conclusion: Important to clarify that ICAR’s appointment processes are entirely transparent and in line with the established rules. The allegations raised are not only factually incorrect but also appear to be part of an attempt to malign the organization's image. ICAR has consistently maintained the highest level of integrity and transparency in its operations. Spreading such baseless rumors is wrong and harms the organization’s reputation.

We appeal to the media and the public to disregard these unfounded allegations and prioritize the correct information.
