IMD Issues Alert for Heatwave, Rain, and Thunderstorms

According to the India Meteorological Department (IMD), several weather systems are currently active across the country. An upper air cyclonic circulation lies over northeast Madhya Pradesh, another over Bangladesh, and a third over the Gulf of Mannar in the lower tropospheric levels.
Rainfall and Thunderstorm Outlook:
Northeast and East India are likely to experience light to moderate rainfall accompanied by thunderstorms, lightning, and gusty winds (40–50 kmph) over the next four days. Central India and the plains of Maharashtra may witness isolated showers along with thunder and gusty winds on April 15.
- Odisha is expected to receive heavy rainfall on April 15 and 16.
- Assam and Meghalaya may see heavy rainfall from April 16 to 18, while Nagaland, Manipur, Mizoram, and Tripura are likely to be affected on April 17.
- Jharkhand is under alert for isolated hailstorms on April 15.
- On April 15, Gangetic West Bengal, Bihar, and Jharkhand may experience thundersqualls with wind speeds up to 50–60 kmph.
- Tamil Nadu, Puducherry, Karaikal, Coastal Andhra Pradesh, Rayalaseema, Telangana, and Interior Karnataka are likely to receive light to moderate rainfall with thunderstorms over the next four days. Kerala and Mahe may witness scattered rainfall with gusty winds over the next two days.
Impact on Western Himalayan Region:
A strong Western Disturbance is expected to affect the region from April 16 to 20, bringing rain, thunderstorms, strong winds, and hailstorms to Jammu-Kashmir, Himachal Pradesh, and Uttarakhand.
- Heavy rainfall and hailstorms are forecast for April 18 and 19.
- Northwest plains of India may also experience thunderstorms and rain between April 18 and 20.
Temperature Forecast:
- Northwest India: A gradual rise in maximum temperatures by 3–5°C is likely till April 18, followed by a fall of 2–4°C.
- Central India: No major change in the next 24 hours, but temperatures may rise by 2–4°C between April 15–18, followed by a fall.
- Interior Maharashtra: A rise of 2–3°C in maximum temperature is expected over the next 5 days.
- Gujarat: Temperatures may increase by 2–3°C till April 17, and then decrease.
- No significant changes are expected in other regions of the country.
Heatwave, Warm Nights, and Humid Conditions:
West Rajasthan: Likely to face heatwave to severe heatwave conditions from April 16 to 18. Isolated heatwaves are expected on April 15 and 19.
- East Rajasthan: Heatwave alerts are in place from April 15 to 19.
- Gujarat: Heatwave conditions are expected between April 15 to 17.
- Punjab, Haryana, and West Madhya Pradesh: Likely to experience heatwaves from April 16 to 18.
- Kerala and Mahe: Hot and humid weather is expected on April 15.
- Warm nights are likely in West Rajasthan from April 16 to 18, and in East Rajasthan on April 17 and 18.
