Dr. Philipp Ackermann, Ambassador of the Federal Republic of Germany, met Dr. Devesh Chaturvedi, Secretary, Ministry of Agriculture and Farmers Welfare, at Krishi Bhawan. The meeting aimed to explore opportunities for strengthening collaboration in agriculture and allied sectors, with a particular emphasis on post-harvest technology, organic and natural farming, and agricultural mechanization.
Dr. Chaturvedi highlighted the long-standing partnership between India and Germany in the agricultural sector, emphasizing the importance of Intergovernmental Consultations (IGC), Memorandums of Understanding (MoUs), and Joint Declarations of Intent (JDIs) in enhancing bilateral relations. He also referred to advancements in digital agriculture and triangular development cooperation discussed during the recent IGC meeting. The upcoming Joint Working Group (JWG) meeting was noted as a key platform to further strengthen this partnership.
The discussions focused on promoting natural and organic farming practices to improve soil health and overall productivity. Key areas of collaboration included empowering Farmer Producer Organizations (FPOs), adopting sustainable agricultural practices, advancing digital agriculture, developing the seed sector, and building capacity among stakeholders.
Focus on Investment in Food Processing and Trade: Both sides underscored the need for increased investment in food processing industries and enhancing trade, particularly through the export of horticultural products. Strengthening the value chain and boosting farmer incomes were highlighted as key goals.
Commitment to Innovation and Technological Cooperation: The meeting concluded with a shared commitment to deepening cooperation in agricultural innovation, technology, and trade. The focus remains on achieving mutually beneficial outcomes for both countries, ensuring sustainable growth in the agricultural sector.
