The Agricultural and Processed Food Products Export Development Authority (APEDA), in collaboration with the Government of Arunachal Pradesh, organized an International Buyer-Seller Meet (IBSM) at the Kalawangpo Convention Hall in Tawang. The primary objective of the event was to promote the export of agricultural and processed food products from Arunachal Pradesh and the broader North Eastern Region of India.
Chief Minister of Arunachal Pradesh, Shri Pema Khandu, in his address, emphasized the development of agriculture and allied sectors, enhancing farmers’ income, empowering self-help groups (SHGs), and encouraging women-led initiatives. He highlighted the state’s Geographical Indication (GI) tagged products such as Khaw Tai (Khamti) rice, mandarin oranges, kiwi, apples, persimmon, and yak cheese (Churpi), and stressed on expanding their export to Southeast Asian and ASEAN countries. He urged both national and international buyers to invest in the state and provide global exposure to its local products.
Arunachal Pradesh's Minister of Agriculture, Shri Gabriel Denwang Wangsu, underscored the need for awareness and capacity building among farmers to ensure fair pricing for their produce. He appreciated the efforts of the region’s farmers in cultivating premium produce such as kiwi, oranges, apples, walnuts, and value-added items like wine.
APEDA Chairman, Shri Abhishek Dev, recommended identifying Farmer Producer Organizations (FPOs) and Farmer Producer Companies (FPCs) from Arunachal Pradesh for participation in national and international trade fairs. He affirmed that APEDA and the state government will jointly work towards identifying and promoting key agricultural products, infrastructure development, branding, and capacity building of farmers, SHGs, startups, and exporters.
International Buyers Interact with Over 200 Farmers: During the conference, 11 international buyers from the UAE, Nepal, and Bhutan held direct discussions with 17 exporters from 7 Indian states and union territories. These exporters also engaged with more than 50 FPOs and 200 farmers from Arunachal Pradesh to understand the quality, availability, and production capacity of local produce.
Unlocking Export Potential of the Region: The conference brought together policymakers, buyers, exporters, experts, and industry representatives from sectors including organic produce, millets, honey, fresh fruits and vegetables, processed food, spices, and tea.
