The Indian Sugar Mills Association (ISMA) has urged the government to grant permission for the export of 10 lakh tons of sugar in the ongoing 2023-24 season. ISMA forwarded this request to the government, foreseeing a robust closing stock by the season's end. As per a statement, sugar production had reached 302.20 lakh tons by March in the current season, compared to 300.77 lakh tons during the corresponding period of the previous year. The sugar season typically extends from October to September.
However, there are constraints on sugar exports from the country. In mid-March, ISMA adjusted its projection for refined sugar production for the 2023-24 season to 320 lakh tons.
