Government Aid in Procuring Agricultural Equipment Embracing modern land and agricultural technology has become imperative for farmers. However, agricultural machinery often comes with a hefty price tag, rendering it unattainable for many farmers. In response to this challenge, the Bihar government has opted to offer subsidies for the acquisition of agricultural machinery.

Custom Hiring Centers A Feasible Alternative:

Custom Hiring Centers present a favorable option, enabling farmers to access subsidies for agricultural machinery. Through these centers, farmers can lease machinery instead of purchasing it outright. This presents a cost-effective solution for farmers lacking the necessary funds to buy their own equipment.

Government Initiatives Support for Farmers:

Under a scheme launched by the Bihar government, subsidies are accessible to farmers for procuring agricultural machinery. The goal is to establish Custom Hiring Centers and extend subsidies for agricultural machinery. This initiative marks a significant stride in fortifying and streamlining farming for farmers.

Subsidies for Agricultural Machinery: As part of this scheme, the state government has committed to providing subsidies for 106 types of agricultural machinery this year. These encompass machinery for sowing, planting, harvesting, cutting, and various other equipment types.

Subsidy Rates for SMAM 2023-2024:

1. For SMAM-CHC (Custom Hiring Center), the maximum subsidy is 40%, up to 4,00,000/=.
2. For SMAM-FMB (Farm Machinery Bank), the maximum subsidy is 80%, up to 8,00,000/=.

For SMAM-SCHC (Special Custom Hiring Center):

1. For tractors, the maximum subsidy is 40%, up to 3,40,000/=.
2. For other machinery, the maximum subsidy is 80%, up to a total maximum of 12,00,000/= (including tractor).

Additionally, under the Sub-Mission on Agricultural Mechanization (SMAM) scheme for 2023-24, subsidies will be provided in 9 districts of Bihar state: Patna, Bhojpur, Kaimur, Buxar, Nalanda, Rohtas, Nawada, Aurangabad, and Gaya.
At the departmental level, subsidy rates for the following machinery under the Sub-Mission on Agricultural Mechanization (SMAM) scheme have been set after review.

1. Straw Reaper -  For the General Category - Maximum subsidy of 40% up to 104,000 For Scheduled Castes/Scheduled Tribes/Economically Weaker Sections - Maximum subsidy of 50% up to 130,000
2. Reaper-Binder (Tractor Operated) For the General Category - Maximum subsidy of 40% up to 120,000  For Scheduled Castes/Scheduled Tribes/Economically Weaker Sections - Maximum subsidy of 50% up to 150,000

Online Registration for Agricultural Machinery: Farmers will be required to apply by visiting the official website of the Bihar Department of Agriculture (dbtagriculture.bihar.gov.in).
