The district is expected to witness an excellent lychee harvest this year, bringing smiles to the faces of farmers. The lychee trees are blooming with abundant flower clusters, and due to minimal fog and favorable temperatures, farmers are optimistic about a strong yield.
Farmers are delighted with the flowering on lychee trees and have intensified orchard maintenance. According to them, the number of flower clusters on Shahi Lychee is significantly higher than last year. Similarly, China Lychee is also expected to start blooming within a week. Once the flowering phase is complete, farmers will begin spraying pesticides to protect the crops. After two years, lychee orchards have shown promising growth, raising hopes for better exports this season. By the end of March, national and international buyers will start arriving in Muzaffarpur to purchase the premium-quality lychee.
Last year, excessive fog and fluctuating temperatures caused severe damage to the lychee crop. However, this year’s stable weather conditions have resulted in healthy flowering on the trees. Bablu Shahi, a farmer from Kanti block, stated that this season holds great potential for a profitable harvest. He also mentioned that if farmers receive an export license from APEDA (Agricultural and Processed Food Products Export Development Authority), they would not have to depend on external agencies for selling their produce.
Positive Reports from Lychee Growers’ Association and Research Center: Bihar Lychee Growers’ Association President, Bacha Prasad Singh, expressed confidence in a strong yield, ensuring benefits for farmers. The Director of the National Research Center on Lychee also shared an optimistic outlook. He stated, “Several orchards in Muzaffarpur have been inspected, and the crop condition is currently excellent. Farmers are hopeful for a high yield this year. If the weather remains favorable, not only will the production be abundant, but exports will also increase significantly.”
