The Department of Animal Husbandry & Dairying (DAHD), Ministry of Fisheries, Animal Husbandry & Dairying, Government of India, will organize the “Meeting of the Technical Committee for Improvement of Animal Husbandry and Dairying Statistics” on 29-30 January 2025 at Regents Central Grand Exortica, Pune, Maharashtra.

The meeting will begin with a discussion on the conclusions of the previous Technical Committee (TCD) meeting, followed by an in-depth review of the Integrated Sample Survey (ISS) and Livestock Census (LC). The objective of this meeting is to strengthen the implementation of these key initiatives, ensuring informed policymaking and sustainable development in the livestock sector.

Role of the Technical Committee (TCD):

The Technical Committee (TCD) serves as an advisory body, providing guidance and oversight in the implementation of livestock-related surveys and initiatives. It ensures the standardization of methodologies and alignment with policy objectives. By offering strategic direction and expertise, TCD plays a pivotal role in enhancing the reliability and relevance of data, which is essential for informed decision-making in the livestock sector.

Integrated Sample Survey (ISS):

The ISS is a crucial tool for estimating livestock population and production in India. Conducted annually, it provides reliable data on key parameters such as milk, egg, and meat production, supporting evidence-based policymaking. By ensuring consistency and accuracy at the state level, the ISS enhances the measurement of livestock’s contribution to the agricultural economy.

Livestock Census (LC):

The Livestock Census (LC) is conducted every five years to enumerate all domesticated animals and poultry in India. This comprehensive census helps in planning and implementing government schemes aimed at improving the livestock sector and rural livelihoods. The meeting will also provide updates on the progress of the ongoing 21st Livestock Census, which covers 16 species and 219 breeds, utilizing a mobile app for data collection by over 100,000 field workers.
