The Madhya Pradesh government has stated that the state's rich agricultural heritage and sustainable development policies are attracting global investors. During the Global Investors Summit (GIS) in Bhopal, investors proposed over ₹4,000 crore in investment for agriculture, food processing, and dairy production. This milestone is seen as a significant boost to the state's Green and White Revolutions.
Madhya Pradesh has emerged as the largest organic farming state in India, contributing 40% of the country's total organic farming. The state now aims to expand the organic farming area from 1.7 million hectares to 2 million hectares. To promote sustainable agriculture, farmers are being provided with free solar pumps to encourage eco-friendly farming practices. The horticulture sector has also seen significant growth, with the area under horticultural crops increasing from 2.7 million hectares to 3.2 million hectares, directly benefiting fruit and vegetable growers.
The state is among the leading dairy producers in India. Currently, Madhya Pradesh contributes 9% of the country’s total milk production, with a goal to increase it to 20%. Chief Minister Dr. Mohan Yadav highlighted the success of the Sanchi brand, which has established a strong presence in both national and international markets. With 591 lakh kilograms of milk produced daily, Madhya Pradesh is now the third-largest milk-producing state in India.
During GIS-Bhopal, a special session was held on the theme "Seed to Shelf", where investors recognized the state's immense potential. The state is setting up 8 food parks, 2 mega food parks, 5 agro-processing clusters, and a logistics park to boost food processing infrastructure. Under the Pradhan Mantri Micro Food Processing Scheme, ₹930 crore has been sanctioned to support the sector. Currently, over 70 large industrial units and 3,800+ micro, small, and medium enterprises (MSMEs) are actively engaged in agricultural processing and value addition.
Irrigation Projects to Expand Agricultural Land:
The irrigated land in the state has expanded significantly, from 300,000 hectares in 2003 to 5 million hectares today. The government aims to increase this to 10 million hectares by 2028-29. This expansion will be made possible through major irrigation projects on perennial rivers such as Narmada, Chambal, Tapti, Betwa, Son, Shipra, Kalisindh, and Tawa.
Over 8,000 New Job Opportunities through GIS-Bhopal:
With ₹4,000 crore investments in the food processing sector, the state is set to generate over 8,000 employment opportunities. The expansion of food processing industries will allow farmers to get better prices for their produce, boosting the state’s economic growth. The investment proposals received during GIS-Bhopal have accelerated the Green and White Revolutions, marking a significant step toward making Madhya Pradesh the "Food Basket" of India.
