Bid to provide affordable and quality medicines to the pilgrims at the Mahakumbh Mela in Prayagraj, five Jan Aushadhi Centers have been set up in the Mahakumbh Nagar under the Pradhan Mantri Bharatiya Janaushadhi Pariyojana (PMBJP). One of these centers is located in Kalagram. These centers will remain operational throughout the duration of the Mahakumbh Mela.
Shri Ravi Dadhich, CEO of the Pharmaceuticals and Medical Devices Bureau of India (PMBI), reviewed the Jan Aushadhi stalls and other centers in Prayagraj. He shared that purchasing medicines from Jan Aushadhi centers can save the public 50 to 90 percent on costs. During his visit, he interacted with center operators and visitors to discuss the utility and benefits of the PMBJP.
Shri Dadhich further mentioned that a total of 2,633 Jan Aushadhi Centers are operating in Uttar Pradesh, with 62 centers in Prayagraj. Over 15,000 centers have been established across the country, and the goal is to expand this number to 25,000, inspired by the vision of Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi. This year, the target for medicine sales through these centers is ₹2,000 crores, of which ₹1,500 crores have already been achieved.
Special Facilities for Pilgrims during Mahakumbh: To assist the pilgrims during the Mahakumbh Mela, information about the nearest Jan Aushadhi centers is being provided through a pin-code-based system. Special arrangements have been made at these centers to ensure the availability of affordable and quality medicines for the pilgrims.
